Abstract

In July 2024, the city of Palopo experienced a year-on-year (YoY) inflation rate of 2.19 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 106.00.

The inflation was driven by rising prices, as evidenced by the increased cumulative price index across several expenditure groups. On a YoY basis, in July 2024, several expenditure groups experienced inflation: the food, beverages, and tobacco group increased by 4.52 percent; the clothing and footwear group by 0.75 percent; the housing, water, electricity, and household fuel group by 0.58 percent; the health group by 0.05 percent; the transportation group by 1.81 percent; the recreation, sports, and culture group by 0.97 percent; the food and beverage/restaurant services group by 2.09 percent; and the personal care and other services group by 3.44 percent. Conversely, the housing, water, electricity, and household fuel group experienced deflation of 0.21 percent; the information, communication, and financial services group also experienced deflation of 0.89 percent, and the education group saw no change in the price index (stable).

The month-to-month (MtM) inflation rate for July 2024 was recorded as deflation at 0.29 percent, and the calendar year-to-date (YtD) inflation rate was 1.72 percent.
