Abstract

In May 2024, the city of Palopo experienced a year-on-year (yoy) inflation rate of 2.64 percent, with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 106.65.

The inflation occurred due to an increase in prices, as indicated by the rising cumulative price index of several expenditure groups. On a yoy basis, in May 2024, several expenditure groups experienced inflation: the food, beverages, and tobacco group at 6.08 percent; the clothing and footwear group at 0.60 percent; the household equipment, appliance, and routine household maintenance group at 0.51 percent; the health group at 0.02 percent; the transportation group at 1.09 percent; the recreation, sports, and culture group at 0.97 percent; the food and beverage/restaurant provision group at 2.09 percent; and the personal care and other services group at 3.12 percent. Meanwhile, the housing, water, electricity, and household fuel group experienced deflation of 0.23 percent; the information, communication, and financial services group also experienced deflation of 0.32 percent; and the education group saw no change in the price index (stable).

The month-to-month (mtm) inflation rate for May 2024 recorded a deflation of 0.21 percent, and the calendar year inflation/year-to-date (ytd) inflation rate was 2.34 percent.
